Boston By Design: Episode Two: The Student Perspective

a preview into what it's like going to graphic design school in boston

Episode two of Boston by Design is LIVE!

For some extra context: each of these episodes were produced about 3-4 weeks apart. If you listened to episode one, you’ll notice that I ended the episode asking about Boston’s “next big thing.” I’ll let you know now, I dropped that concept pretty quick and opted for a more well rounded look into the Boston design scene from an outsider’s perspective. By this point in the semester, I realized that this was a perspective that was deeper and more educational, which is what I was aiming to do: be informative.

This second episode focuses on the education that young designers are getting. Broadly in the sense that they’re learning X number of principles and more specifically about how going to college in Boston has influenced their design education.

You might also notice that almost everyone interviewed was from Northeastern University. While not my intention to make it so focused on this one school, when you’re working on a journalistic project on a tight deadline, you work with what’s handed to you. And if schedules align between potential interviewees this way, that’s how it’s going to turn out.

I don’t think it diminished from the perspective of students and professors I was trying to get across. Frankly, I think if I was able to interview more students and educators from other schools during that time, they would’ve given me similar answers. If I ever have an opportunity to take this concept further and expand on the podcast, I’ll definitely get more in depth, but for now, please enjoy listening about the world of graphic design education in Boston.

I hope you liked it, and thank you for listening.
